Feels Like Glamor Week
It was a short week after the Labor Day holiday but work returned to normal with a few twists. First Vicki Wilbers, MDA ED, and Jerri Wildhaber, MDIS Operations Director, jetted off to Maine for the annual Medical Protective conference for agents. Jerri and her team do a great job representing MedPro and MedPro is super supportive of our student outreach, so it’s a good crowd to be with. In addition to networking and agenda items, the conference always features some good social time. You can see Vicki and Jerri outside their coastal hotel, Cliff House, located in Cape Neddick, ME. They joined other agents for a boat cruise where they could see the fancy houses and the hotel from the water.

Meanwhile I took a personal day to be a forecaddie at the Ascension Charity Classic pro-am in St Louis. My son came along on a perfect weather day and we had a blast at Norwood Hills Country Club. Both our teams played well but I guess my son outhustled me because he made three times the tip I did! Dr. Tom Flavin is the starter for this tournament, and I was sure to introduce him to my son. It’s nice to make those connections.

ADA New Dentist Town Hall
On a Thursday night Zoom call the ADA New Dentist Committee had their first ever town hall to connect with other dentists and share stories and discuss challenges. I saw Missouri members, Dr. Aaron Bumann and Dr. Kati Pyle on the call among the 65+ total participants. The energy was really good and you could sense the next generation is ready to lead. Keep track with all the latest at the New Dentist Committee page: ada.org/newdentistcommittee.
Central Dental Society Meeting & Social
Today the CDS held a hybrid OSHA training followed by their annual business meeting here at the MDA Office. I joined the President, Dr. Ron Wilkerson, MDA President Dr. Tom Stone, and CDS ED, Stacey Hemmel, as they discussed many things including membership trends. I was happy to see some new faces in Dr. Jordan Weis and Dr. Chris Kollath and it was neat to see father and son duo, Dr. Elwood Rice and Dr. Elliot Rice from Mexico, MO attend together. After the meeting, several folks gathered at Last Flight Brewery here in town for some social time together.

The Week Ahead
I can’t disclose the locations, but the Prize Patrol will be on the move this month as we surprise the MDA annual award winners with news of their selection. Plus we travel to UMKC for an ASDA lunch event and a GKCDS New Dentist Social. On Friday, the MDA Foundation board gathers for their fall meeting. It’s a full week every week in the fall.
