The Week That Was: April 4-8

Me and My Logos

Certain times of year are more project driven than others. That season is now for me, personally, as two events steam their way toward summer crescendos. Luckily for you, there’s great reward in being involved in both.

First up is the MDA’s Foundation annual fundraiser called Connect4Cash. Now in its fifth year and tied in part to the rising popularity of the Connect4Success conference, this reverse countdown raffle is filled with suspense as fingers are crossed that your name is the last one drawn and you walk away with the title of Grand Champion and a minimum of $1,500 in cash. The more who play, the bigger the jackpot. The playful competition is fierce, but many players are rewarded after elimination with donated prizes from our fabulous exhibitor partners. And perhaps best of all, there’s little overhead and that means a good profit margin to boost the dental student scholarship and public outreach programs run by the Foundation. So, whether you’re motivated by greed, gamesmanship or generosity (likely all three), get your ticket(s) now. I will have a special drawing on Monday, April 18 and give one lucky Early Bird ticket holder $100 in cash. Good luck!

Second up is the return of our old friend, MOMOM. After a three-year break, we are back with a two-day clinic at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis on July 15-16, 2022. I was just in the ‘Lou this past Wednesday recruiting some new community volunteer leads. Later that evening the local steering committee met and covered many positive advancements. Perhaps most important was the fact that in just five days after launching registration, more than 100 volunteers including 41 dentists had signed up. Help us reach our goal of 200 dentists. Reignite those warm fuzzies of helping others in this incredible setting. Register and learn more here.

Southwest Dental Society Installation

Vicki Wilbers journeyed down to Joplin last night to join MDA President, Dr. Tom Stone, and the fabulous members of the SWDS for their annual installation dinner. Always a friendly crew, last night was no exception. Amid the banter they did cover some business. Drs. Charles McGintyEd McAllister and Mike LaFerla presented Mr. Kevin Greim, MSSU Foundation Associate VP of Development, with a $25,000 check to support the Missouri Southern State University Foundation and the school’s hygiene program. Dr. Stone presented outgoing SWDS President, Dr. Jon Reagan with a commemorative plaque for his service. Dr. Reagan is now the SWDS trustee on the MDA Board. And Dr. Stone swore in the new officers, President, Dr. Alex Talbott, President Elect, Dr. Kyle Wilson and Treasurer, Dr. Mike LaFerla. It’s great to see the local components in action!

The Week Ahead

Spring is travel season. Stacey Hemmel and Jerri Wildhaber will represent MDA and MDIS at the SIU vendor fair. Mandy Lewis has an EFDA event in St. Louis. The Zoom calendar is still blooming with New Dentist Committee and Finance Committee calls, among others. And please note that the MDA office will be closed on April 15 for Good Friday. The blog will take a break as well. Have a glorious April!
