The Week That Was: November 28-December 2

Back From Break

Don’t look now but December is upon us. I hope all you readers out there had a relaxing time with family over Thanksgiving. I spent too many hours on the speedways that we call highways. Others (all of us?) ate too much. And sadly more than we care to admit have encountered some kind of illness. This final month of the year is busy and has high highs and low lows. Be sure to take care of yourself. You can find many helpful resources for your mental health here and don’t forget the MDA’s Voluntary Wellness Program is just one confidential and free call away at 314-435-1101.

Lobby Efforts Start Now

Next month the MDA advocacy efforts return to the spotlight when the new legislative session begins but really advocacy is a year around effort. As we speak one of the more important planning events, the ADA Lobbyist Conference, is in session in Sandestin, Fla. This is where all the state lobby teams gather with the ADA brain trust to collaborate on strategies and network for better success. ADA Executive Director, Dr. Ray Cohlmia was one of many presenters. Team MDA is represented by Halie Payne, MDA Director of Professional Affairs and Olivia Wilson from our contracted lobby firm. Not surprisingly, Halie and Oliva did a great job as part of a panel discussion on Medicaid. We will see what nuggets they come away with but for now mark your calendars for our Legislative Town Hall on February 1st and MDA Dental Day at the Capitol on March 1st. Plenty of promotion to come next month.

Missouri Folks in the Spotlight

The ADA Morning Huddle email is always full of interesting dental related links. Recently I came across two that featured our fine Missouri members. This one is about the great work the GSLDS does with New Dentist and student outreaches. And this one is an interesting take on the school clinic at UMKC SOD. Enjoy!

The Week Ahead

December is about preparation for next year and holiday events. There are some interesting webinars ahead and task force gatherings. Plus, Halie and I will join GSLDS for their New Dentist  Holiday Social while the GKCDS crew installs their new officers at their annual soiree. Festive cheers to all. I’ll see what photos and reports we can track down for your enjoyment.

Quote of the Week

“Lobbying is a just a fancy word for talking to your legislators and…telling them how you feel about an issue. It’s something everyone can do.” – Jackie Kruszewski
