Zippity Zoom Da, Zippity A
At its heart, this blog is more social than substance. It’s meant to report on the latest MDA activity while featuring informal photos of members and staff. This was much easier when travel to and fro was abundant. But now it appears as though all of life is either a drive-thru window or a Zoom meeting—which is the work equivalent of a drive-thru window. Still the work goes on, and I will offer some synopsis for those loyal readers out there. Just me, personally, participated in six Zooms this week. Trust me, there were others. Can I get an Amen?
Kicking it off was our Virtual MDA Series this past Tuesday featuring a panel of ADA experts discussing the latest on COVID response. More than 45 participated in this information-rich session. These offerings are free and come with an hour of CE credit. We have two scheduled for the first week of December. One on addressing COVID related wellness issues among our staff and one on the ADA’s Practice Transition program. Register for both here.
Regarding the rest of the week, the main theme was membership, as ADA delivered Q4 reports and forecast marketing efforts for 2021. A lot of well-educated people with high-end resources are working their tails off to understand and respond to the market. Thankfully MDA remains above the curve and will fight daily to stay that way with our awesome members.
Other topics of the week were about the DLOSCE exam for dental student grads and a chance to meet the new dean, Dr. Linda Niessen, at the Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine in Joplin that will open in 2022.
New Dentist Bingo Zoom
Finally a fun reason to Zoom! Last night I was with a small, but lively contingent, of new dentists from the Greater Kansas City Dental Society for a few rounds of Virtual Bingo. This was a clever way to offer some social interaction. The chat box was zingy with trash talk and poor jokes (mainly from me; okay, all from me). It took me until the last game to honor my boast to kick some a** because these NDs were sharp! When the trivia questions came up, Dr. Ashley Deacy flexed her smarts and her typing prowess. I tip my hat to all the other champs as well: Dr. Ryan Bland, Dr. Anna McKee and Dr. Ericka Ketchum, plus super supportive Dr. Michelle Butler and Dr. Mac Darnell. There were loads of prizes from sponsor, MDIS as well. It was the fastest, most fun hour on Zoom in some time. Thanks, Sam Silvey, GKCDS Executive Director, for pulling this off.
The Week Ahead
It’s a short week with the holiday ahead. The MDA office will be closed Thursday and Friday and there will be no blog.
Quote of the Week
All the staff here at the MDA love our members and join with the Board in wishing you all a safe, restful and meaningful Thanksgiving however you are allowed to gather. Gratitude lifts the heart!
