Fore! (Pete’s Sake)
While today we can all embrace the late arrival of some awesome fall weather, Monday was still blazing hot. But I’m not complaining too much because I had the chance to play golf at the Lake of the Ozarks in support of the Missouri Society of Association Executives. This fine group understands the unique needs and challenges of our line of work and it’s fun to network with them. I was shut out of the winnings but I enjoyed my foursome which included a former tenant in the MDA building. My swing was u-g-l-y, so I have decided to stick to my day job.
MDAF Announces Grant Awards
The mission of your MDA Foundation is Improving Smiles. We do that in a variety of ways. MOMOM tends to get the most ink, but your dues donations play a big role in other aspects of the mission including the Foundation’s grant program. The purpose is to support local organizations around the state that are on the front lines of oral health outreach and education. Often, many of you volunteer with these organizations. The program had a humble start in 2012 with just a $3,500 budget. Over the years we’ve grown that to $10,000. This year the board grappled with 13 worthy applicants requesting a total of $39,000. After much debate, awards were made to nine programs. We are excited to play a small role in supporting these oral health champions who are making a difference across the state. Click here to see the 2019 awards. To date since 2012, thanks to your support of the Foundation, we have awarded 37 grants totaling $42,307. Good work MDAF!
Bacon, Macon & Shaking
I love a good Friday headline even if it’s a stretch. Today Stacey and I stopped to buy some award-winning bacon in Moberly before heading to Macon for the Northeast Dental Society business meeting. That was followed by the NEDS New Dentist Social where a cocktail or two will get the weekend shaking. Through the marvel of technology, any pertinent information will be updated here just prior to this being posted.
MDA President-Elect, Dr. Mike Berry gave a report at the business meeting—which addressed important details from bylaws to dues and delegates—it’s safe to say that good times were on the agenda at the social. Busy weeks from busy dentists who double as awesome MDA volunteers require a little unwind time to connect. I dove into game show host character and led some spirited competition for good prizes. Congrats to Drs. Amanda Fitzpatrick and Lisa Bosch on their loot.
The Week Ahead
Fill up the tank and download the podcasts, it’s time to drive. Monday the MDAF Chair, Dr. Danielle Riordan, and I will be in Kansas City for the UMKC Scholarship dinner. Wednesday I will be in Mountain View exploring an access project opportunity. Friday Jerri and I will be in St. Joseph for the NWDS business meeting and ND social. And then the big event comes on Saturday when MDA’s beloved Stacey Kloeppel jumps the broom and gets married in Holts Summit.
