The Week That Was: November 26-30

Talent-Rich Staff Create Holiday Gifts

You may recall that we recently had a team building afternoon at Unique Creations Studio, the paint-your-pottery place in town. I must say I was a little hesitant based on what I saw that afternoon, but lo and behold, once they were all baked and given final treatment, we had a variety of beautiful and creative pieces. After we had our health care and benefits meeting this week, we gathered with our prized art to take a team photo. You can zoom in and pick your favorite and then try to cajole that staff person into making you something. Or you can just smile. As blog author and photographer, I allowed myself the privilege of a selfie featuring my appetizer tray for my favorite recreational pursuit. Don’t be jelly of me because, well, I had a lot of help.

Eat More Chicken

On Tuesday, Jerri, Shantel and I hit the road for the final Food for Thought this calendar year at UMKC. The recent blizzard and impending holidays had everyone in a good mood. Of course seeing us pull up with 160 Chick-fil-A sandwiches and cash prizes never hurts either. Shantel did a great job explaining the ins and outs of her job as Legislative and Regulatory Director and how that benefits them. She had their attention mentioning issues that could be in effect by the time they are practicing in the next 2-3 years. We reminded them of upcoming MDA opportunities and bid them farewell until March 2019.

Studying in the Desert

Vicki and Shantel are in Arizona as we speak attending the ADA Lobbyist’s Conference. This annual, national gathering of state executives and legislative directors is like a final scrimmage before the big game. Our team learns what is working and not working in other states. They get connected to resources that aid success, and they get invaluable time networking with counterparts who really understand the struggles related to working with elected officials and complex legislation. Our Missouri Assembly will convene in about 6 weeks and this conference is a big boost as we finalize local strategies. Don’t forget to make plans to have your voice heard and join us at Legislative Day 2019 on January 23. RSVP today!

The Week Ahead

We will draw winners for our early-bird dues promotion on Facebook Live next Monday, December 3 at 11:30am. Make plans to watch this historic event and see if you win. If you pay your dues online, then you’re already a winner saving you time and saving the MDA money. Also, I’ll head to Springfield for a New Dentist Social next Thursday.
