The Week That Was: May 22-26

How Busy is Too Busy?

After a two week absence, this blog is back for a brief moment. Why the delay? Have you ever met yourself coming and going and realized there’s just not enough time for everything? That’s how the last three weeks have been with travel, MDA workload and planning my son’s wedding in Fayetteville. That grand and happy event  was last weekend and now I can return to business as usual. The hectic pace wasn’t much different for Vicki whose daughter, Macyn, graduated from high school two weeks ago. Let’s just say there’s been a lot of joy around the office!

The Dome is Empty Again

Adding to the manic pace around here was the always unpredictable finish to the legislative session. The MDA had some wins and some almost wins. You can read Katie’s great summary here. Kudos to all those on the LRC, to all members who participated in Legislative Day and to all who took action to call and email their legislators when prompted. Advocacy is a total team effort, and the stakes are high.

Not a Bad View

We were thrilled that our very own Elisha Kleffner put her money down and won the I Heart Dental Charities Grand Prize last November. Her reward was a special trip to St. John’s for a week at a private villa. She took her best friend and their two mothers and had a fantastic time. Just check out the view from her very own pool! Back in Jefferson City, the remaining staff alternated between joy and jealousy when she texted updates of her adventure.

Objects in Mirror May Be Closer Than They Appear

Only 2 weeks until MOMOM 6 in Joplin is in full bloom. You should see the supplies and materials mounting at the MDA office.  The photo shows just some of the badges for our massive, awesome volunteer army that makes all the difference. We closed online registration with about 940 total volunteers. You can still register on site. We especially need a few more dentists to help us put smiles on our neighbors in need.

On the Road

Mainly we’ve been juggling vacation travel and special events. Next week Paul runs to Kansas City and Joplin for some final MOMOM business. The MDA staff have the annual budget meeting. Central Dental Society has a social on June 1 and MDA President, Dr. Prabu Raman, attends the UMKC White Coat Transitioning Ceremony on June 2. For all of you who are traveling on this holiday weekend, be safe and have fun!
